Music that moves through

memory, body, and dream

All music below is made by Sami Freeman, unless otherwise noted

About

Sami Freeman makes music that feels like a dream — emotional, textured, and rich with color. A singer, pianist, and composer based in San Francisco, she’s drawn to sounds that move through the body: strings, synths, and keys that carry both weight and wonder.

Originally a dancer, Sami began composing while studying at UCLA. A broken ankle shifted her path from choreography to composition, and she’s been creating music ever since. With roots as a professional salsa dancer at 14, her sense of rhythm and movement continues to shape her sonic world.

Her work spans short films, documentaries, and original scores — including trailer music for the Mill Valley Film Festival. She was awarded Best Soundtrack at Italy’s Cinedanza Dance Film Festival for If I Were You, and her music has been featured by KQED. Recent projects include The Dolphin Club and an upcoming narrative indie feature called Road To L'Étape du Tour.

Sami is also the co-founder of Gooroo Music, a San Francisco–based studio providing original music, sound design, and licensing for film, branded content, and immersive experiences.

In 2024, she released Space Bath, a 22-minute immersive piece exploring dreams, death, and the subconscious. The piece has since found a home in intention-setting courses, yoga workshops, a sound installation at Blackbird Bookstore, Dolby Atmos listening sessions, and most recently, as the score for a contemporary dance film.

Sami lives and creates in the foggy Sunset District of San Francisco with her husband and son — often starting her mornings with a cold plunge and a melody.
